It looks like E.T. is finally coming to Blu-ray! And if that bit of news wasn’t exciting enough, it will also be coming in the form of a steelbook and a Limited Edition Spaceship.
Release date and prices are still to be announced.
Future Play.com Steelbook Wave
Hi-Def Ninja have just confirmed that Play.com have yet more exclusive steelbooks heading our way. Unfortunately, all we have at the moment are the placeholders to stare at.

Three of the remaining six Universal 100th Anniversary Play.com exclusive steelbooks now have artwork and are also available to pre-order! Like the previous six that were listed on Play’s site earlier this year, the three latest editions are priced at £9.99 each. The only difference is that they will be released on 3rd September, instead of 28th May.

There are currently three steelbooks in this wave that remain without any artwork or release dates - these titles are Shaun of the Dead, The Thing, and Hot Fuzz.
A steelbook for Marvel’s The Avengers is now available to pre-order on Amazon.de - beware that “Vorläufiges Cover” apparently means “preliminary cover”, so the above image is more than likely not the official artwork.
It’s currently priced at €29.99, with a release date of 30th September.

Haha I wish! But nah, I just find the site/community very helpful and informative. Plus I’m a member of staff on there, so I feel it’s my duty to spread the word of HDN as much as possible. Maybe I do overdue it a bit at times though, lol.
Something to be proud of…
If you go to the Terminator steelbook item page on Play.com and select the ‘Special Features’ tab, you will notice that it says the following: “Inside artwork as voted for by members of the Hi-Def Ninjas forums”.
So, if you’re a member over at HDN and you cast your vote in this thread, then you should be happy to know that you played a very big part in selecting which interior art was chosen for the steelbook.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - HMV Exlcusive Digipack
Continuing from my previous post regarding this Play.com exclusive Termintaor steelbook, the final artwork for both the exterior and interior have finally been decided and revealed.
Many thanks to Wreck at Hi-Def Ninja, who had a lot to do with how this steelbook turned out. If it wasn’t for him and the HDN community, then it probably wouldn’t look as awesome as it does!
Square Enix recently revealed the ‘Professional Edition’ for Hitman: Absolution.
It will include the following:
- Premium hardcover art book with a foreword from Game Director Tore Blystad.
- Exclusive behind-the-scenes “making of” video.
- Packaged in a clamshell box that looks as sharp as Agent 47 does in his suit.
- Advanced access to a range of in-game Agency Weapons, giving the Original Assassin a deadly edge over his enemies from the outset. The Agency Jagd P22G pistol will suit the silent assassins, whilst the Agency HX UMP SMG and the Agency SPS 12 semi-automatic shotgun will give Agent 47 the power to fight his foes head on.
You can now pre-order it from most online retailers.
Game Steelbook Giveaway
As I mentioned last week, my buddies over at Hi-Def Ninja are always holding quite a few giveaways, including game and movie steelbooks, slipcases, digibooks etc.
Here’s just a reminder that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 steelbook for PS3 giveaway ends tomorrow, when a winner will be announced by none other than myself.
We also recently set up a new giveaway for steelbook versions of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which you can enter here.
As well as that, there’s the Gears of War 3, Halo Wars, FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3 steelbook giveaways. So there’s plenty of stuff up for grabs, and therefore a fairly big chance you could win any of them if you enter!
